It's received rave reviews since hitting theaters in the States last week, and now "Hugo" has been crowned as 2011's Best Film of the Year by the National Board of Review.

The Chloe Moretz and Sacha Baron Cohen starring family adventure film not only garnered the top prize, as it's leader Martin Scorsese also took home Best Director accolades for the 3D masterpiece.

Commenting on the selection, NBR president Annie Schulhof said, “Hugo is such a personal film by Martin Scorsese. It is a tribute to the early years of cinema that uses today's cutting edge technology to bring the audience into a completely unique and magical world. It is visually stunning and emotionally engaging.”

Meanwhile, George Clooney landed Best Actor for his work in "The Descendants" while Tilda Swinton was dubbed as Best Actress for her role in "We Need to Talk About Kevin".
