"Breaking Dawn" Tops the Thanksgiving Weekend Box Office


Heading into the Thanksgiving holiday, "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1" continued to lock up first place at the box office to begin the long weekend of November 23-27, 2011.

The Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner starring vampire picture took in $12.5 million on Wednesday, $7.8 million on Thursday and $17 million on Friday with a forecast of $62.3 million over the five-day weekend run.

Settling for the runner-up slot was a cinema newcomer, as the family friendly picture "The Muppets" brought in $6.6 million on opening day with an anticipated Thanksgiving weekend grand total projected at a respectable $43.5 million.

With quite the spread being found between second and third, the animated movie "Happy Feet Two" slipped a spot from last week's runner-up status with $10.4 million from Wednesday through Friday for an estimated holiday weekend outlook set at $18 million.

Rounding out the top ten in projected five-day earnings at the box office are "Arthur Christmas" ($16.5 million), "Hugo" ($15 million), "Jack & Jill" ($14 million), "Immortals" ($13.3 million), "Puss In Boots" ($11.5 million), "Tower Heist" ($10 million) and "The Descendants" ($9 million).
